Mariann Tosi

Mariann Tosi, LICSW doesn't believe that difficult experiences in life, including trauma and substance abuse, have to have the final word. She has spent her life working to help people learn how to write new chapters in their lives. She sought out premier training to best serve her clients. From Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, a leader in the field of psychological trauma, she learned the cutting edge research and approaches to helping trauma survivors. From her training at McLean Hospital inpatient units, she learned to help individuals struggling with the challenge of significant mental health concerns.

When she works with clients with substance abuse issues, Mariann draws on her experience in Quincy Court where she worked as a clinician and educator of the drug court, helping repair relationships and foster recovery. She also draws from her experience during the past five years counseling in an outpatient setting with individuals, couples and families struggling with substance abuse/dependency, trauma and mental illness. Mariann has mentored interns in the field of substance dependency, treatment of mental illness, and trauma resolution.

Mariann received her undergraduate degree at St. Ambrose University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology, graduating Cum Laude. Mariann continued her education at Simmons College receiving a Master's degree from the School of Social Work. She completed a Postmaster's Certificate in Relational and Multi-contextual Treatment of Traumatic Studies, from the Justice Resource Institute, founded by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. Mariann is a certified yoga teacher with additional training in teaching trauma sensitive yoga.

Mariann's treatment approach is eclectic, utilizing mind-body work, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy and solution-focused therapies. When appropriate, she incorporates trauma informed yoga to assist clients working toward trauma resolution for post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. Mariann serves every individual with integrity, commitment and service.
