Maura Gilmore, LMHC is a Child and Family Therapist who is passionate about working with young children and their families. When children are exhibiting concerning behaviors or have experienced traumatic events, the relationships with trusted caregivers are vital to the successful development of adaptive self-regulation and coping skills.
Maura works closely with parents and caregivers to translate what a child’s behavior may mean, and what a child needs at different developmental stages to feel safe, loved, and capable. Treatment looks different for each family unit and often includes both child or family therapy sessions as well as consistent parent consultation. Maura works with parents to identify attainable and appropriate goals for treatment and collaborates with other providers to ensure that caregivers are also feeling safe, loved, and capable.
Maura has been in private practice since 2011 with practices in both Southbury, CT and Newton, MA prior to her work with families on the South Shore. Maura earned an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and has completed a Certificate in Early Childhood Mental Health through Wheelock College. Maura is well versed in Early Childhood Mental Health and looks to empower the family unit to identify strengths and explore the roots of challenges. Her approach seeks to increase desired behaviors and positive, joyful interactions between the parents and children. Maura also focuses on the mind-body connection and helps young children and their families utilize a range of approaches such as yoga, mindfulness, sensory input, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
