Finding Hope

This is a simple, beautifully written and exquisitely illustrated modern fable, so perfect for today. Charlie Mackesy takes us through a journey exploring life’s universal lessons. It is a story of innocence and adventure as the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse come together walking, talking, supporting each other. Mackesy introduces us to a world of kindness, wisdom, mutual care, tenderness and coming together.

There are many lessons to be learned:

What really matters

How to be gentle to oneself and others

How to walk with the ones we love through all that life brings

Mackesy gently takes us through an adventure that unfolds and embraces us with friendship and kindness.

Among my favorite questions asked in the book:

“What do we do when our hearts hurt”, asked the boy. “We wrap them with friendship, shared tears, and time, till they wake hopeful and happy again”.

“Nothing beats kindness”, said the horse. “It sits quietly beyond all things”.

“When big things feel out of control….focus on what you love right under your nose”.

“When have you been at your strongest”, asked the boy. “When I have dared to show my weakness”.

“Asking for help isn’t giving up”, said the horse. “It’s refusing to give up”.

“What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said”, asked the boy. “Help”, said the horse.

Mackesy is a real day spokesman for giving us uplift during very challenging, difficult, uncertain times. He moves us to reach for hope and to hold inspiration. I have read, and reread it, I have given it to friends and family. I believe his messages are mantras drawing us through dark moments to belief in the light of the future ahead. There are many “silver linings” to hold as we navigate one day at a time. Caring, kindness and compassion positively connect us.
